Campus life isn’t just about attending classes, joining clubs, or hanging out with friends. The hidden experts of university life build their re′sume‘s through various activities and gain motivation through scholarships, making their college experience even more fulfilling. To help you enjoy Kyonggi University life, Pharos has some useful tips about extracurricular programs and scholarships.

1. Kyonggi University Attendance App: Attendance and timetable

This is an essential app that most students install for attendance purposes. However, it offers more than just attendance tracking. It’s linked to most of the university’s websites, reducing the need for manual searches. Moreover, it syncs automatically with your course registration, allowing you to easily check your timetable within the app.

2. Kyonggi University LMS: Online classes

This website is mainly used for submitting assignments and taking online classes. If there’s an issue with your attendance for an online lecture, you can click on the course and check your attendance record in the “Online Attendance” at the top left corner. Moreover, LMS also provides access to KG-MOOC, an online lecture service with a wide range of subjects. If you're interested, it's worth exploring.

3. BARUN: Extracurricular activities

If you're interested in extracurricular activities, lectures, or campus programs, BARUN is a must-know platform. You can find high-quality programs offered by departments like the Startup Support Center, Software-Centered University Project Group, and the International Education Center. It also consolidates key records such as GPA, competency evaluations, and professor meetings. Many of these extracurricular activities are connected to scholarship qualifications, so it’s important to keep them in mind.

If you want to fulfill your graduation requirements by collecting “KGU Points”, you must earn more than 140 points. KGU Points are the score that you can acquire by participating in an extracurricular program. Here are some examples that can earn 15 or 30 points.

1. Tutoring Program

This can be divided into “Tutoring for Freshmen,” “Tutoring for Seniors” and “Global Tutoring.” Regardless of the type, Tutors need an A or higher grade in the applied subject. Through this program, tutors can earn 30 points and ₩300,000, tutees can earn 15 points and ₩150,000.

2. Professor-Student Class Accompanying Project

This project is improving the quality of classes by sharing feedback freely between students and professors. If your professor uploads an application through LMS, you can apply to this project and earn 30 points.

3. Creative Turtle Study Groups

This involves making a team of more than 4 students to study one particular subject. Students who join get 30 points and ₩100,000. In this group, teams have to study and check their progress under the supervision of an academic advisor, and write a report about it.

Next is the school scholarship system. There are many different ways to get a scholarship at Kyonggi University. If you are interested, search for them on the official school website.

1. Scholarship for Academic Excellence

This reduces tuition for the next semester according to the order of the same grade. The top 3% get a 100% reduction. The top 7% get a 60% reduction, and the top 15% get a 30% reduction.

2. KGU scholarship

This is given to members of the student council and departmental student representatives, as well as to extraordinary people whose GPA didn’t rank in the top 15%. These vary depending on the reason for the award.

3. Scholarship for Academic Improvement

When a student’s GPA improves compared to the previous semester, scholarships are awarded at different levels of ₩500,000, ₩700,000, and ₩1,000,000, depending on the increase in GPA. Even if your GPA only grew, there is a possibility that you’ll be eligible for a scholarship. Therefore, enrollment is recommended for all students who have improved their grades.

4. “MIRAEJAPKKI” scholarship (a scholarship for the future)

‘Type I’ is awarded to students who achieve grades above a certain standard on tests like the TOEIC and DELF. ‘Type II’ is awarded to students who earn more than 300 points. If you earn 500 points, you will receive a cash reward of up to ₩700,000.

As time goes by, you will naturally learn more about school life. Additionally, you will have a broader perspective about what you need to know. Share the know-how you discover, and let’s enjoy a rich school life together.
