Daeum and Naeil ra for Student Council leadership and the two student council leadership candidates were fiercely competitive. The two student council leadership candidates received the accumulated warnings for inappropriate behavior were during the campaign. As a result, the election was nullified. Based on this incident, in 2025, Kyonggi University is resorting to an Emergency Measure Committee without a Student Council. Pharos looks into the situation of the two student council leaderships’ disqualification, the future of the school under the Emd ergency Measure Committee, and the students’ reactions.

From the appeal of Daeum, Naeil was submitted to disciplinary action as the intervention of the other unit election headquarters. Based on these accumulated warnings, the Student Council leadership of Naeil was disqualified and dissolved. Furthermore, the election was declared invalid.
The Central Election Commission announced a new election. However, since there were no registered candidtes, the new election wasn’t carried out. According to Election Enforcement Regulations, The Student Council Election of 2025 would be held again as a by-election in March. Up to that time, the Emergency Measure Committee operates the school. The Emergency Measure Committee is temporarily composed of an organization in an emergency situation when the Student Council’s election is abortive. The Chairman and Vice-Chairman are elected as presidents of the college Student Council. If unsatisfactory results come from at a by-election, the Emergency Measure Committee will continue to lead the school. With fewer people than the Student Council, the Emergency Measure Committee is limited in what it can accomplish. It will have difficulty providing basic guidance and planning for our school. In addition, because of the minimal funds and labor force, student events and rights will be reduced. Ultimately, this harms the students.
Pharos conducted a survey of the students of Kyonggi University about the current situation, First, while most students were aware of the incapacitation and dissolution process of the two student council leadership candidates, about 30% of students said they did not fully understand the facts. Almost all students recognized the establishment of the Emergency Measure Committee, but the majority said they were unaware of the committee’s role and its overall effect on students’ lives. Additionally, many students regarded the Emergency Measure Committee as a temporary student council and they expect the limitations, such as student self-governance and welfare. The survey also addressed the most disappointing aspects of the incident. Common responses were about the Central Election Committee’s inappropriate election and response methods, allegations that appeared intentional between the two student council candidates, and situations that progressed dogmatically without explanations to the students. Lastly, suggestions for improvement through this incident included improving election regulations, ensuring the leadership’s members follow the detailed rules, and maintaining a fair election process. Most of the students said the need for consistent and fair application of the regulations, strengthening neutrality and transparency in elections, and enhancing pre-education and understanding of the election regulations.
It is natural that many students feel worried and uneasy about the absence of the Student Council in 2025. The overheated competition between the two leadership candidates, the Central Election Committee’s inappropriate election methods and responses, and the lack of proper propagation of information after the election are the main factors that deepen this situation. Now that an Emergency Measure Committee has been established, it is more important than ever that everyone work from their positions to support Kyonggi University and students’ whole school life.
