Did you know that there are many different types of black tea? Black tea is systematically categorized based on its blend and the origin of the tea leaves, making it highly appealing in a society that values personal preferences. Already cherished worldwide, the pleasure of enjoying a cup of black tea that matches your taste is truly indescribable. Pharos visited two specialized tea shops to explore a variety of black teas, each with its own unique charm. Let’s embark on this journey together.
Before we begin our journey, how do we classify the types ofblack tea? Black tea comes in a wide range of tastes depending on the types of leaves involved. Therefore, they are divided into three main categories: straight tea, blended tea, and flavoredtea. Straight tea is made from just one type of tea leaf. Thus, it is called by the name of the country of origin. A classic example of straight tea is Assamtea, which comes from Assam, India. Blended tea, on the other hand, is created by mixing two or more basic tea leaves. For example, breakfast tea is a blend of Assam, Ceylon, and African black teas, chosen for their strong flavors and higher caffeine content, making it ideal for waking up in the morning. Lastly, flavored teas contain added petals, fruits, and spices to bring outthe flavor. A well-known example of flavored tea is Earl Grey; it is made by adding orange oil extracted in Italy.
The first place is the 16th Century Tea House, which is located in Gwanggyo jungang-ro, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si. It is accessible through the back gate of Suwon Campus, which takes about 30 minutes by bus. The inside of the cafe reminds me of tales of 16th century Europe. Looking around at the furniture, lamps, and tea set was a special treat because they are so charming and antique. The menu is divided into: Good to drink any time, the best three blackteas in the world, and seasonally recommended black teas. Also, the descriptions of taste and scent are well written, so new customers can choose their black teas easily. Moreover, customerscan choose their teapot depending on their preferences. After we ordered, the owner brought us tea, sugar cubes, milk, and anhourglass. Wait a moment while the tea brews and enjoy your tea! You can drink your tea black, add some milk, or add a sugar cube. Pharos had the pleasure of tasting the charming Wedding Imperial tea, which has a mix of bittersweet chocolate and rich caramel flavors that go well with Assam. It tastes even better with milk, making it smoother and richer.
