These days, university students often share various experiences from their spare time SNS activities. They think enjoying a visit to a museum is difficult, but now, it is easy. The Pharos will introduce the Grevin Museum where you can see many celebrities.

The Grevin Museum and the people who established it

The Grevin Museum was founded by Alfred Grevin who is a caricaturist, sculptor and costume designer and Arthur Meilleur who is a journalist. Meilleur was sad about the many people who wanted to meet celebrities but couldn’t. Therefore, Meilleur and Grevin produced wax figures that were similar to real people. Furthermore, Grevin decorated the museum beautifully using light, music, mirrors and so on. The museum was named after Grevin. Now, all the wax figures are produced by designers in a Paris studio.

The wax figures of the Grevin Museum

The Grevin Museum displays wax figures resembling real people. The Grevin Museum collection consists of 14 different themes. The First theme’s name is Red Carpet. You can meet the original Hallyu star actors. And other themes introduce visitors to the great names of history like Sejong the Great, Admiral Yi Sun-shin, Toegye Yi Hwang, Scholar Yul-gok and his mother Shin Sa-im-dang. Also, in the fashion studio, there are André Kim and the dresses which he made. And you can see Kim Yu-na, who is the best skater in the world, and Hiddink who led South Korea to the semifinals of the 2002 World Cup. In the Hall of Fame, there are G-dragon, Rain, Psy and so on. There are famous stars’ hand prints too. Nearly 300 wax figures are displayed in the Grevin Museum.

Making wax figures

The wax figures are made by 15 experts like stylists, make-up artists and eyeball experts. Making one wax figure requires at least six months and an expense of about 100 million won. Each figure is made with natural hair and one figure requires 500,000 hairs. The most important part of the figure, the face, takes about 190 hours to be made by artists and it needs about 5 liters of wax. Making a wax figure is started by measuring and taking a photograph of a real person. Then, they make the eyes, teeth, hair and so on. After, the head is attached to the body. Next, they make the body's shape and sculpt the face. Lastly, when they have finished applying the make-up, there is a figure much like that of the real person. If they want to make it more real, they dress the figure in clothes worn by celebrities and decorate it with things owned by the real person.

Feel the Grevin Museum

In the Grevin Museum, we can make our own wax figures. If you go to the 'Discovery Atelier' theme room, you can make your figures by scanning your face, and selecting your skin color, hair style and clothes. Finally, your figure is shown with those of the stars and you can get a video of this sent to you in an e-mail. You can meet your favorite famous persons in one place and take a photo with them. Also, there is a store that sells things of Korean celebrities. And next to the museum, there is the Grevin Cafe which has many various menu items. You can eat various dishes from all around the world.

If you want to see celebrities in one place, encounter the new experiences and take photos, why don't you go to the Grevin Museum? If you want to go to an unusal exhibition, and like to experience things in person, it is well-suited for you. We invite you to go to the Grevin Museum when you can come to life in a photo.
