The semester has begun and students' interest in school has increased due to the return to faceto-face classes. You can receive many benefits from school while attending college, but many students are not familiar with the existence of some programs. There are several institutions on campus that support students. Among these institutions, Pharos wants to find out how the Human Resources Development Department supports students through a variety of programs.

The Ministry of Human Resources Development is a department that can help students improve their knowledge of future careers and prepare students for actual employment by conducting counseling regarding careers and employment programs. The Human Resources Development Department consists of three departments: the University Job Center, the Employment Management Support Team, and the Career Development Education Team. The University Job Center is striving to build infrastructure for employment support in cities near the university. The Employment Management Support Team is helping students manage their job search. And the Career Development Education Team provides help for students to increase their chances of landing a career before graduation. For students currently attending school, Pharos conducted an interview with Kim Da-bin of the Career Development Education Team.

Interview with Kim Da-bin of the Career Development Education Team

Q. Please introduce yourself.

“Hello, I'm Kim Da-bin, a member of the Career Development Education Team of the Human Resources Development Department. Our main tasks are managing the comparative department of the Career Development Education Team, managing program operations, operating the future job cafe′ program, and operating the future job scholarship system.”

Q. What is the Human Resources Development Department?

The Human Resources Development Department consists of an Employment Management Support Team, a Career Development Education Team, and a University Life Counselor. The College Job Plus Center, a university agency, is also operated by the head of the center. Let me briefly talk about the main tasks of each team. First of all, the Employment Management Support Team, is in charge of managing the overall employment rate through employment statistics surveys, establishing basic operation plans for employment policies, and operating career employment subjects. The Career Development Education Team develops and operates various employment programs for the career development of enrolled students and also operates a scholarship system for future skills. The College Life Counseling Center mainly conducts psychological counseling for students, and recently, it has established a student psychological counseling system to help support students affected by the COVID-19 outbreak so that students can lead a smooth college life. Finally, the University Job Plus Center manages 750 million won a year in government support from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, establishing a customized employment support system between local related organizations and universities in connection with the government's youth employment project.

Q. What does the career development education team usually do?

The Career Development Education Team is a department that participates in the university innovation support project supported by the Ministry of Education and promotes various comparison programs for career development and establishment of career-related infrastructure. As of 2021, a total of 18 comparison programs were held, and this year, the KCCCP program, comparison programs tailored to changes in the future industrial environment (big data practical utilization process, creating virtual spaces using metadata, etc.) will be conducted. In addition, Job Studio and Smart Job High-End Hall have been established on the third and fourth floors of the welfare center since 2020, and this year, an integrated system for graduates' competency management will be established to support active follow-up management after graduation.

Q. What are some future-scholarships that students may not know about?

Future Job Scholarship is a scholarship system that has been in operation since 2010 to promote students' sense of employment, and is provided to first-come, first-served applicants according to the budget range every semester. Future Job Scholarship is divided into Type 1 application based on certificates and language grades and Type 2 application for KGU+point scores through various comparison programs. Type 1 scholarship is received within tuition and Type 2 scholarship is received outside tuition. One thing to note is that from the first semester (June) of this year, Type 2 of Future Job Scholarship will be transferred to the Education Performance Management Center of the Ministry of Education and Innovation for more efficient KGU+ point scholarship payment.

Q. How can students visit the Human Resources Development Department for help?

I can tell you about three main things. First of all, it is counseling related to career and employment. The Human Resources Development Department currently has 11 employment consultants, including Suwon and Seoul Campus, and additional 3 consultants will be added from April. Please receive A to Z support for employment, such as career and aptitude search, resume correction guidance, and interview guidance with various consultant teachers according to your major. The second is the rental of interview clothes. Through the Imagination Closet Project, which has been operated in collaboration with KT&G since 2017, KGU student can rent suits, shoes, and belts necessary for free. Lastly, we rent a learning space. The Human Resources Development Department currently has a meeting room on the third floor of the welfare center for up to 16 people, three interview rooms for interview practice, two studios for video shooting and recording, and five study rooms on the fourth floor of the student hall. You can apply for a reservation on the website of the Human Resources Development Department, so please apply for a place suitable for your own use and receive space rental support. In addition, if you make friends with Kakao Talk Plus at the Human Resources Development Department, you can receive various service guidance more efficiently, so please refer to it.

The Human Resources Development Office/University Job Plus Center on the second floor of the welfare center is always open. Students who don't know what to do, students who know what to do but need support, please come to the Human Resources Development Department. I will always work for the students. Thank you.

"The Human Resources Development Department is a department that helps students in school with employment management and career development education. Through the career employment comparison program, you can experience various programs such as job clubs and future job cafes. Through the Imagination Closet Program, costumes needed for interviews are rented, and the Future Job Scholarship is a program that provides scholarships with scores as well as improving students' careers. In addition, a 1:1 counseling project will be conducted to help Kyonggi University students design their careers and prepare for employment. We could feel that it was a department that helped students get a successful job by informing them of the specifications and management methods of students who passed in the past. Now that you are an adult, no one is forcing you to act. You should be able to find something that helps you find yourself. Pharos supports many students by introducing the Human Resources Development Department, which can effectively receive help from students' questions and future job plans."
