Due to the implementation of the social distancing policy, indoor sports facilities have been banned collectively and outdoor activities have been restricted, reducing the opportunity to engage in physical activities compared to before COVID-19. According to the results of the "Health Investment Awareness Survey" released by the Korea Health Promotion Development Institute, 42% of the respondents experienced weight gain due to COVID-19. The Health Promotion Development Institute is working in various ways to improve public health. The Health Promotion Center, which serves as the Health Promotion Development Institute at Kyonggi University is located at the Suwon Campus, but many students are not aware of its existence. Pharos wants to interview a team member working at the Health Promotion Center to help students achieve a healthy school life.

1. Please introduce yourself.

Hello, I'm Hyeyoung Jung, a nurse who works at the school's health promotion center.

2. Please briefly introduce the Health Promotion Center.

The Suwon Campus Health Promotion Center of Kyonggi University is located on the second floor of the welfare center and supports students with a healthy school life through health evaluation, disease management, health counseling, and health education. It is available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and only takes a break between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. during lunch time. The rest of the time it is open for students at Kyonggi University. Also, there are many students who don't know how to use it, but it's explained in detail on the Kyonggi University website, so please refer to it and use it.

* The non-smoking clinic is available without an appointment, and obesity management requires making a reservation on the Internet.

3. Tell me about the main work of the health promotion center.

The Health Promotion Center provides counseling based on body composition measurement and measurement results. If necessary, we also conduct a 1:1 PT program. In particular, the PT program was trying to continue because of the favorable response from students, but now it is difficult to proceed due to the social distancing policy. It also helps reduce the burden of hospital expenses by informing exchange students who are not familiar with the structure of the school of the health center and providing simple medicine. If it weren't for the COVID-19 situation, we would have conducted various campaigns or programs, but all of our major tasks are currently suspended because the events we have planned are lecture-oriented classes that require face-to-face situations.

4. Even students who have been to school for a long time often don’t know the location of the Health Promotion Center. Why is this?

Because our office is located far from the buildings which students usually use. So there have been many requests for relocation and the university is considering it. It is not a paid facility. All the students at Kyonggi University can use our services for free, so please do not hesitate to visit our office.

5. How can students receive medical treatment or have an examination at the Health Promotion Center?

It depends on the future of COVID-19 restrictions, but there are no current exercise programs being offered. However, we are providing body composition measurement and counseling services. It would be helpful for students who do exercise by themselves in their home. You can use measurement and counseling services by visiting our center.

6. What kind of benefit could be gained by Kyonggi University students from the Health Promotion Center?

We offers these four critical programs: CPR, a non-smoking clinic, CPR general instructor courses, and exercises. These all offer useful information for students. If you call the center, I’ll provide you with more information about our programs when the pandemic has ended.

7. Please give some advice to students of Kyonggi University.

The most important thing is to follow the prevention of epidemic rules now. A group of people walking around is often seen on campus. They may not be breaking the prevention of epidemic rules, but they are being lax on prevention. This can provoke a big accident, even though there were no infections on the campus because students are not going to university. I recommend that the students should follow the rules until the situation stabilizes. We had an interview with Hyeyoung Jung working as a nurse at the Campus Health Promotion Center at Kyonggi University. The Health Promotion Center supports the healthy lives of students in various ways. Students who are interested in health care and who have difficulties managing their health could seek help from the Health Promotion Center and get the benefits without hesitating. It will be very helpful for Kyonggi University students
