As the YouTube market expands, more and more YouTube users are making profits by posting videos on YouTube and attracting viewers. In other words, the YouTuber is emerging as a new leader in the job market, taking fifth place in elementary school students’ future career plans. In addition, if you watch TV these days, you can see that YouTubers that appeared only on YouTube have come out as advertising models. As such, YouTubers are affecting not only the media market but also society as a whole. However, can being a YouTuber be considered a stable job? Also, what are the problems? In this article, the Pharos will try to provide answers to these questions.

 On YouTube, users can open personal channels and become broadcasters. As personal broadcasting became possible and the medium became more active, and more and more YouTubers began to appear. The YouTuber is a person who broadcasts live on YouTube or uploads videos. YouTubers are active in various fields such as personal beauty ideas, games, food, and so on. They show their talents in their fields, or even show their eating and sleeping lives. People get life information or useful tips by watching their videos. Also, people relieve stress or enjoy themselves through the videos. Famous YouTubers not only operate on the YouTube channel, but also are involved in advertising and TV activities. Banzz, who is famous for his eating show, has become well known for his Internet broadcasting and has been cast on various TV programs. He was also invited to be a one-day teacher at an elementary school, and he told students about the reasons for his dream and goals. A TV program was even created for the YouTubers. It is the “LAN Cable Life” program on JTBC, which shows how famous YouTubers produce and prepare videos. This program was intended to satisfy the curiosity of people who wondered about YouTubers’ lives and their back stories. Thus, we can see that YouTubers are making inroads into various fields as well as operating on YouTube.

 Although being a YouTuber seems to be a very profitable job at first glance, it is hard to say that it is a stable job. First of all, advertising revenue is unstable. Advertisements are usually of two types, ad videos and sponsorship ads. The ad videos show an ad before the viewer watches a YouTuber’s video, and sponsorship ads are ones in which YouTubers try the ad’s products. Because ad revenue is based on the number of subscribers, it is easy to lose advertising income if the number of subscribers decreases. In addition, YouTube’s import structure has a significant effect on the number of subscribers and the viewing time. The longer a subscriber’s viewing time, the greater the possibility of increased revenue. However, it is not always easy to be financially successful because YouTubers must continue to create new things to sustain subscribers’ interest. People’s attention can change easily according to fashion, a change of perception, and so on, so it makes it difficult to guarantee the success of a YouTuber. There are also limits to YouTuber’s activities. Office workers who dream of becoming YouTubers have been blocked by a ban on working at the same time. Office workers have recently been jumping into the “Worker Vlog” organized by YouTube, but most companies state that this practice is not allowed under the terms of their working contracts. Meanwhile, a ban on the distribution of self-produced games has also caused much controversy. Self-produced games are games that are created and shared by game users as a hobby. However, the Game Object Management Committee under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism considers these games to be “illegal games that have not been reviewed for ratings” and has issued a deletion guideline for each post. In response, there was a backlash arguing that banning individuals from doing things like club activities was excessive

regulation.

 Another issue to note is the taxes YouTubers must pay. The reason for this problem is that because YouTube is a foreign company, it is difficult to acquire financial information. Google’s tax regulations are limited to Americans. Therefore, Korean YouTubers have no tax obligations. There are two types of Korean YouTubers. First, there is the YouTuber who belongs to MCN. In this case, MCN will receive the income that YouTube gives to YouTubers on their behalf and will report to the National Tax Service the amount of the settlement to be made. However, the problem is the personal YouTuber. If the comprehensive income is not declared voluntarily, tax evasion may occur because the government can not access this income information. The reason for this problem lies in the legislation of the nation’s tax laws. Since there is no current tax law pertainging to YouTubers, their tax avoidance is not illegal. Therefore, even if the tax authorities become aware of the income of a YouTuber, the question is how to tax it. Clear standards are needed on how to classify the income of YouTubers and how to calculate the tax. When receiving donations from subscribers, it is unclear whether they will be considered as donations or revenue. However, it should not be overlooked that the advertising revenue from YouTube is subject to income tax.

 As personal broadcasting becomes more active, the job of YouTuber is getting the attention of many people. Some YouTubers have become famous, and they even do it as their main jobs. Maybe it is becoming a new dream for young people who are having trouble finding work. However, stability is not guaranteed, and broadcasting must continually be more stimulating to keep people’s attention. Also, the tax system for YouTubers has not been established yet, so it is questionable whether taxes will be collected fairly. While the YouTuber job is emerging as new opportunity, the disadvantages associated with it need to recognized. We hope that belong a YouTuber will be seen as a possible job after the issues related to it have been overcome.
