In the middle of Seoul, where there are many buildings, there is a place where you can feel the beauty of Hanok and the simplicity of small shops. There are various kinds of shops such as cafes, restaurants, clothing stores and bars in Ikseon-dong, so there are plenty of things to enjoy. Stores with unique charms are gaining popularity among young Koreans, and Korean elements such as Hanok and stores with traditional themes are attracting foreign tourists. The Pharos wants to introduce some places in Ikseon-dong that are always crowded with people.

Dong-Baek YangGwaJeom

Address: 17-24 Supyo-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul

“Dong-Baek YangGwaJeom” is a cafe selling famous soufflé pancakes, that has appeared on the TV program “Live Today.” It is one of the most famous cafes in Ikseon-dong. It sells various drinks besides soufflé pancakes and is loved by many people. People visit “Dong-Baek YangGwaJeom” to enjoy the harmony of the sweet cream and sweet texture of the soufflé pancakes. In addition, the antique pieces of furniture found in the interior of the Hanok building are another reason why people like this place. You might have to wait about 30 minutes after placing your order because the pancakes are made after receipt of an order. Therefore, on crowded weekends, you should give yourself plenty of time to eat the soufflé pancakes.

Com-Com Arcade

Address: 25 Donhwamoon-ro 11-Da-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul

If you want to go to an old-fashioned arcade, visit the “Com-Com Arcade” in Ikseon-dong. There is an arcade in an alley in Ikseon-dong that brings back memories. There are several entertainment machines in the arcade, such as Iron-Fisted Tag and Puyo Puyo. The “Com-Com Arcade” is a shop with a neat and stylish interior with white walls that contrast with the retro entertainment machines. On the walls of the shop, pleasant lighting fixtures make the atmosphere interesting. This is a space that suits the taste of people who played games in arcades during their school days. In addition, there are the latest entertainment machines, such as doll drawing machines that are popular these days, so it is a good place to go with children.

Cafe “Jan”

Address: 52 Supyo-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul

The Pharos will now introduce a cafe named “Jan” which is located in Euljiro and within twenty minutes of Ikseon-dong. In this cafe, you can drink coffee during the day and can drink wine after 7 p.m. The first unusual characteristic of this cafe is you can choose a cupaccording to your type among the ones displayed, and then get your drink in the cup. You can become closer to the person you are drinking coffee with or you can feel your own mood better while drinking coffee in this cafe. If you drink soft coffee, the choice of cups is limited, so you have to select a menu item with this in mind. The second unusual characteristic is there is no sign. “Jan” is located in a building near Euljiro 3-ga Station, but it does not have a sign, so if you walk without looking carefully, you won’t be able to find the cafe easily. Instead of a sign hanging on the building, there is a small introductory notice, so please look carefully when you go to the cafe.

Ikseon-Dong Hanok Village

Ikseon-dong Hanok Village is the oldest Hanok village in Seoul. It has preserved the traditional living spaces and other characteristics of the past. You can’t feel the traditional Hanok mood in Ikseon-dong at first. However, after walking by every nook and cranny, you can see the collaboration of Hanok’s beautiful traditional design features and modern conveniences. There are pretty cafes and cafeterias, and shops that sell unique Korean souvenirs, so the area is gaining popularity with the younger generation and foreigners. Also, some stores are popular with middle-aged people because of the sign designs and the old interiors. However, visiting Ikseon-dong is can be a bit inconvenient at crowded times, so the Pharos hope that you will visit when there are not too many people. Additionally, Ikseon-dong Hanok Village is a space occupied by local inhabitants, so you have to watch out that you don’t make too much noise.

Ikseon-dong, which has both a modern and traditional appearance, is one of the few places in Seoul where the past and present exist in harmony. You can have a special day with your parents because of the Hanok, and it is also a good place to go with friends or a lover because it has a particular kind of beauty. It is very convenient to access for office workers because it is located in Seoul, and you can enjoy pretty retail stores, beautiful cafes and delicious food in Ikseon-dong Hanok Village. Why don’t you have a special time in Ikseondong, a place that combines the beauty of old Korea with modern conveniences?
