Policy Debate of the College of Liberal Arts

The College of Liberal Arts spent the winter as the only college governed by an emergency committee due to the poor turnout in the 2017 Student Council election held in the second semester. Therefore, at 5:30 pm on March 22, a by-election policy debate of the College of Liberal Arts was held in the central seminar room. In this by-election, : Do Dream and Intro (+ro) ran for Student Council Positions. Before the policy debate, there was a statement from both sides in front of E-square. During the keynote speech at the debate, both sides announced pledges about preparing for restructuring, enhancing communication, and vitalizing welfare programs. Thereafter, common questions, individual questions, and inter-candidate questions were followed. Most of the questions asked for additional explanation of the policy, and the two sides explained specific details of their pledges as well as the feasibility and future implementation of their plans. During the Q&A session, the audience fired sharp questions at both sides such as asking for further explanations of the policies, as well as questions about things that could be a problem in the future.

Seoul Campus Future System Discussions

On December 6, 2017, the term of the Kyonggi University Seoul Campus Student Council ended. The school, however, refused to recognize the new Student Council that would later be created, demanding instead a singlecollege system called the Tourism-Culture College. The school also demanded that a Student Council of the Tourism-Culture College be established. In response, the students of Seoul Campus held a general referendum and a forum on the system, along with discussions on how to deal with the issue. The forum was conducted in the form of a question and answer session after its announcement. The conference was organized mainly with questions from the audience about how the Student Council of the Tourism- Culture College could fill the student council vacancy, and also how to follow up with other 8 departments, excluding the Tourism-Culture departments. In response, the chairman of the Tourism-Culture College answered that he is considering selecting a representative from the Seoul Campus to be a liaison with the Suwon Campus. In reply to the question of whether this will work, he added that it is a school approved solution and is the most viable option now that the Student Council has disappeared. He was also asked if the Tourism-Culture College Student Council could properly listen to the opinions and requirements of the eight departments that are not included in the Tourism-Culture College. He replied that the representative Student Council will be able to manage it sufficiently while talking to the heads of the eight departments, arguing that the new Student Council will make its best effort to reflect the opinions of its fellow students in Seoul.

The Assembly of Students

On April 3, 2018, an assembly of students took place at the Teleconvention Center of the Kyonggi University. The contents of the conference were explaining about various issues, votes on three agendas and information related to a new system about a personnel reduction due to a restructuring. With regard to the three agendas, one was a vote to approve changes to the rules for the “Association of Female Students,” another was the release of the results of the evaluations of professors and the last one was about the proposed opening of the “Students’ Hall” 24 hours a day. Before the voting, members of the Student Council had question and answer sessions, and then they proceeded to the votes by raising a sheet of paper divided into two colors, red and white, which they provided students with in advance. Most issues received overwhelmingly favorable votes. In addition, the president of the Student Council also provided information about a new system, the restructuring that reduces the number of students in several departments showing a chart produced by the university, and he was asked questions about that. At the end of the assembly, the members of the Student Council wound everything up and thanked the students for their active participation.
