Many students these days live with job insecurity and anxiety. These concerns are probably not much different for students at Kyonggi University. However, did you know that there is a job program at Kyonggi University? The KCCP, run by the Human Resources Development Institute, offers a number of very useful programs for 3rd year and 4th year students who are about to get a job. These programs are an indirect way to find out what jobs are like and what the KCCP can do for students who are considering getting a job. In spite of the usefulness of the programs, many students often do not even know that such programs exist. Therefore, the Pharos studied the KCCP programs in detail on behalf of the students.

The KCCP is an organization intended to enhance the job competency of students who wish to share job information through a variety of activities. It is a program targeting third-and fourth-year students who want to get a job, and it gives them a sense of direction in their career through various activities. Every year in February and August, the selected students meet with the group members and mentors during the KCCP camp, and carry out variety activities to achieve the desired task. At the KCCP, students can choose from seven areas (business support, sales management, financial services, marketing, the IT and R&D sectors, and overseas employment) according to their preference. Then, students must study the jobs with the group members they met for three months, and then prepare for the actual jobs of companies and engage in strategic proposal planning. Many other benefits are also available when participating in the KCCP. First, after completing all of the programs, students can receive a scholarship of 200,000 won and also get 70 KGU+points. The study leader is paid an additional 300,000 won as a leader’s scholarship, and the KCCP also provides a 1:1 clinic or job placement assistance. In addition to these benefits, students can gain a clearer understanding of their jobs through the KCCP, and can have valuable experiences that will help them find a real job, such as discovering which position they are fit for and how to write a resume.

Thus for, we have looked into the basics of the KCCP. To find out what the program looks like in more detail, we interviewed former KCCP members about what they wanted to say for the next generation of participants.

Kim Tae-hyo, the 14th KCCP member: I recommend they not engage in too many outside activities. The KCCP forms the team and requires team meetings once a week. Thus, you will have to arrange the schedule with each other as far as possible. However, when there are many things to do individually, it is difficult to make a schedule. Since this could hurt the team, I would like you to do as few activities as possible so you can focus on the KCCP programs.

Lee Ho-jung, the 18th KCCP member: When you go to the camp, it is best to take no clothes or only a suit of clothes. In any case, you will have to wear a given group T-shirt all day until you go home. It is also a good idea to try to be friendly with the team members because you will have to interact with them throughout the semester. We also talked to assistant coach Son Seung-wook, who is working as a job consultant at the Human Resources Development Institute, to get some other tips that might be helpful.

Q Are there any reasons why students should join the KCCP?

A First of all, it is more motivating to prepare for a job together than to work alone. There are many opportunities to come into contact with local senior members of the field of work where you would like to apply for, so you can gain a close understanding of that position.

Q Is there a limit to the number of participants?

A No. Therefore, I think students should choose which fields they would like to go to in their third year based on the understanding of various duties, and then apply again for job preparation in their fourth year. If they do this, it could give them a much longer time to get ready for work, rather than suddenly choosing a job during their last year.

Q Is there a tip for a student who wants to join the KCCP?

A If you have acquired all qualifications you need to have and feel the KCCP team’s activities are burdensome, you had better not apply. Also, if you have a poor grade point average, it is better to take care your grades than work to raise your job skills with KCCP activities. The biggest reason why students quit the KCCP is insufficient time spent on the activities. Therefore, it would be better to refrain from doing too many outside activities so that you can more easily coordinate your schedule with those of the other participants.

Until now, we have examined the job organization named the KCCP. This is not a required activity, but it is highly recommended that you do if you haven’t thought about the direction of your future career. Even if you don’t do it, there are also a variety of other employment programs in Kyonggi University, so we recommend you take advantage of them. Since it is you, not others, who will know what is best for yourself, the Pharos wants students to have an active attitude.
