If you had to choose between the mountains and the sea, which would you choose? No matter the season, Gangneung is one of the most popular travel destinations, chosen by many people every year. Leave behind the stress of the new semester and let's escape to Gangneung together!
Daegwallyeong Yangtte Ranch
Daegwallyeong Yangtte Ranch is located in Pyeongchang, a short distance from Gangneung. With soft music playing, you can take a walk and find sheep wandering freely across the meadows. Children and adults can feed hay to the sheep for just 1,000 won and make special memories together. From mid-May to the end of October, the sheep roam freely outdoors. During the rest of the year, they stay inside their barns. Don’t miss the chance to visit and enjoy the sheep in the sunny weather.
Sageunjin Beach
Located next to Gyeongpo Beach, which is one of the most popular beaches in Gangneung, you can enjoy a quieter mood at Saseunjin Beach, watching colorful breakwaters. Moreover, you can also enjoy swimming in the sea because the water near the beach is deeper than that of other beaches. There’s also Gangneung Submarine Park Observatory, where many people take photos of the beautiful sea and colorful breakwaters.
Food
Gangneung is also famous for its delicious food. You should try Soondubu gelato and Jjampong Soondubu, which are two iconic dishes of Gangneung. Among local favorites is the Japanese restaurant "Huto,” where even residents line up early in the morning. Their giant futomaki rolls are filled with fresh ingredients, though they’re nearly too big for a single bite. Finally, cafe Simancha offers Hojicha Bingsu, which has a sweet and bitter taste, and it is perfectly paired with dango. For a unique twist, try the dango with black sesame paste! Gangneung’s Jungang Market also offers famous street food options that are easy to find on social media and highly recommended for casual snacking.
Wolhwa street and prop shops
Wolhwa Street, about a 5-minute walk from Gangneung Central Market, is filled with cute and unique accessory shops. You’ll find a variety of unique shops, including ‘Boiled Potato — Dipped in the Charm of Potatoes’ whose name reveals its concept, ‘Sansoul’ which sells ceramic shell magnets and keyrings, ‘Oars’ where you can see stylish photos and products, and lastly ‘Barbershop,’ featuring an otter barber cartoon character. However, many shops are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, so it’s best to check before you visit.
Feeling burned out by your daily routine? Take a break in Gangneung. It’s easy to get to by train or car, and it’s full of natural beauty and delicious food.
