The New Square Between Lecture Halls 4 and 5: What Do the Students Think? 최준홍 기자 2024-11-14 21:02:07

After the end of the first semester, the students of Kyonggi University who returned to school after a happy vacation were probably surprised by a change in the school scenery. Recently, the wish for turning the space between Lecture Halls 4 and 5 into a square, which has been continuously mentioned by the students of Kyonggi University, has finally been fulfilled. As the school's old facilities have been changed for the convenience of the students, this can be seen as an important first step toward the development of Kyonggi University.

Turning the space between Lecture Halls 4 and 5 into a square was one of the core pledges of the 2024 student council. Previously, the benches and surrounding environment in front of Lecture Halls 4 and 5 were very old and poorly managed. Accordingly, the student council planned to make the space a representative square of Kyonggi University where students can relax and rest. Originally, the selection of the construction company was completed in the first semester. After the vacation, construction was scheduled to begin in September. However, since construction during the semester could cause a lot of noise and inconvenience, it was changed to quickly proceed during the summer vacation to ensure the safety and learning rights of Kyonggi University students.

To find out the reactions and opinions of Kyonggi University students, Pharos conducted a simple survey using Naver Forms. A total of 45 students participated in the survey regarding what had become more convenient compared to the previous facilities between Lecture Halls 4 and 5, whether they were satisfied with the new square, and what needed to be improved.

First, what the students felt most convenient was the comfortable environment, the flat stairs, and the number of seats. In the past, it was uncomfortable to take a rest because of the dust and cluttered trees, but after the renovation, it is more convenient for students to eat food or snacks there. In addition, many students thought that the space is now better utilized due to the installation of flatter stairs. For these reasons, the students of Kyonggi University who participated in the survey were satisfied with the renovated square between Lecture Halls 4 and 5. The final question was regarding what needs more improvement in the future. The most common opinion is the installation of an elevator in Lecture Hall 5. Lecture Hall 5 is the only building at Kyonggi University that does not have an elevator. For this reason, students who take classes there have to struggle to walk up the stairs to the 5th floor. These opinions have been regularly voiced in the past, so it seems that Kyonggi University and the student council’s attention is needed. Other suggestions are the replacement of all-in-one desks, improvement of WiFi, installation of more trash cans, and making shuttle buses from the Suwon campus to the Seoul campus, etc. Due to these responses, Pharos realized that students of Kyonggi University were paying more attention to our school than we had thought.

This is the first time opinions were collected from students of Kyonggi University regarding changing the school facilities. Through this survey, the opinions of the students of Kyonggi University and the In-yeon Student Council were addressed. As a result, it is expected that the school grounds will be more convenient and the students will have more love for their school. Starting with this, we look forward to Kyonggi University always listening to the students’ voices, even if it is a small inconvenience, and making a better campus for the students.
