What song do you think about when you hear the word ‘autumn’? What are some songs that go well with autumn? Some would think of calm ballads, suitable for the season when the nights start to get longer, and others may think of exciting music suitable for the clear sky and the weather. The difference in autumn music can be seen in the comparison of Korean and United States music charts. Why is there a difference in the image of Korean and United States music charts in September? In this issue, Pharos would like to compare the music on the Korean music chart with the music on the United States music chart in the fall to find out why they are different.
In autumn in Korea, people usually listen to emotional ballad songs such as "Don't Forget Me” by Hugak and "Don't Try” by Shinji. The atmosphere of these songs is related to the expression "Autumn Burning,” which signifies a sudden feeling of calmness as autumn approaches. This is due to hormonal changes caused by decreasing sunlight as autumn begins. Therefore, during autumn in Korea, people often find and listen to emotional ballads, and many songs in this genre are released accordingly. On the other hand, what does fall look like in the US? In the US, during the fall season, people typically listen to more exciting songs than in Korea, such as "We Fall in Love in October” by Girl in Red and "Better Now” by Post Malone. This is because autumn is the season when the new school year begins in the United States. Unlike Korea, where the school year starts in spring, the US begins the school year in September. Therefore, it can be seen that autumn in the United States is similar to spring in Korea. Just as we enjoy fresh and exciting music in the spring, people in the United States mainly listen to exciting pop music in the fall. Unlike Korea’s autumn, which flows a little calmly with a focus on the changing seasons, autumn in the United States is a lively time to prepare for a new beginning.
People in both Korea and the United States listen to special music with a specific genre and atmosphere in autumn, but the two countries differ in terms of what kind of atmosphere they listen to. It is because of the difference in the time set according to the season. In Korea, autumn is a time for rest and preparation for the end of the year, but in the United States, autumn is the symbol of a new start. We should try listening to the music charts of both countries that share the same art of music in different ways and enjoy the autumn in greater abundance. Pharos hopes this will be a more vibrant autumn season with music.
