A Unique Cafe in Hongdae

If you choose one of the most important places for university students, it must be a cafe. During test periods or when you want to meet friends you haven’t seen for a long time, you can spend plenty of time in a cafe. We can see many cafe brands around us. As a result, some unique cafes have begun to emerge. There are several cafes that allow people to perform various activities while drinking, such as a cafe in which you can draw pictures, a nap cafe and a psychological cafe. Therefore, I would like to recommend some more unique cafes to university students who are looking for a cafe.

The Raccoon Cafe (Mang Koon)

Location : 17, Hongik-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Time : 12:30 p.m. to 22:30 p.m.

Admission Fee : 6,000 won

The raccoon is an omnivorous mammal whose life span is from 5 to 16 years. The raccoon is a curious and playful animal. Also, it is one of the cute pets that can be raised at home. At the Raccoon Cafe (Mang Koon), where you can meet a raccoon directly, you pay the admission fee, and then enter. The admission fee is 6,000 won and drinks are not necessary. The price of a drink is usually 1,000 to 3,000 won. You can enter with slippers in the cafe. There is not only a raccoon but also some dogs in the cafe.

Be careful to read the warning information before entering. First, you have to keep your valuables in a cabinet because a raccoon has a lot of curiosity. Especially, earphones have to be put away because they can easily be pulled by the raccoon and broken. Also, if you go to the cafe with a big bag, it is good to be careful with your bag because the big dogs might think that there is food inside and attack you. If the raccoon gets up on the table, the drinks should be raised to high places. You must be careful because the raccoon can attack you if you act forcefully or speak in a loud voice.

The Sheep Cafe (The Thanks Nature Cafe)

Location : 10, Hongik-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Time : 11:00 a.m. to 22:00 p.m. (Always Open)

Admission Fee : service charge with cafe menu order

The sheep is a very sensitive animal, has good eyesight, swims well and freely moves around in natural settings. The sheep can’t be raised at home, but it may be seen pastures. This cafe where you can meet sheep in the center of the city doesn’t have an entrance fee. However, only people who buy drinks or desserts at the cafe can enter to see the sheep. On the cafe menu, there are various desserts such as waffles and ice cream, as well as beverages. Thanks Nature’s sheep consist of two baby sheep and one is a male and the other is a female. After drinking, if you see the sheep, the cafe staff can help you distribute the feed.

When feeding, you must ask the staff or give it to the staff because they know when the sheep are allowed to feed. Otherwise, the sheep can get a stomachache. As soon as a sheep see the feed, it will run to you. If you hold the feed for a long time, be careful as the sheep might try to grab it. You can often hear sheep crying loudly. Therefore, be careful not to be surprised by the cry of the sheep. Don’t hug or touch the sheep roughly. Also, child must enter with a guardian.

The Meerkat Cafe (Meerkat Friends)

Location : 19-12, 21 gil, Wowsan-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Time : 12:00 p.m. to 22:00 p.m. every day

Admission Fee : The admission fee is 7,000 won and is

included in the beverage price (9,000 won and up)

The meerkat has good eyesight, and a well-developed nose, so they find feed from only the feed's smell. Because of that feature, the meerkat paws at the clothes of visitors or the floor of the meerkat zone. If you enter the meerkat zone, you can play with a meerkat.

When the visitor enters the meerkat zone, it is possible to play with them but only for 10minute for each visit. After a visit, the meerkat zone is closed for 10 minutes, so you have to wait about 20 minutes if you want to enter again. There are 10 to 15 meerkats. The number of persons that enter at one time is about 6. When there are a lot of people, you can play with two cats, a fox, and a kangaroo outside of the meerkat zone.

Admission is limited to persons of at least 15 years old and the cafe is a nosmoking area. You can’t enter with your pet or food. Before you enter the meerkat zone, you have to check your pockets, because you can’t take items except a cellphone or camera. Don’t make a loud noise or whistle. Also, don’t grab or try to catch a meerkat; you have to wait for the meerkat to come to you. Plus, you must cover your legs, for they can take a pee on your legs. If you put your face close to a meerkat, they can attack you. Finally, don’t touch them when they are eating something.

So far, we have looked at various animal cafes in Hongdae. These cafes are not only in Hongdae. There are many

cafes like them. The warnings and features are similar in each cafe. If you want to go to a special cafe rather than an

ordinary cafe, and if you want to get close to animals in an urban setting, why don’t you go to an animal cafe?
