Ordinary people wear sunscreen in summer, but do not in winter. In winter, people think, “There’s no need to wear sunscreen in winter because there is very little sunshine!.” However, there is a reason why you should wear sunscreen in winter. I will introduce that reason for Kyonggi University’s students.

Through the results of two experiments, you will learn about the need for sunscreen. First, there is the result of an experiment that shows that people who do not use sunscreen have skin with an aging process that is faster than that of people who use it. Have you ever seen this man's picture? His face is that of a man from 66 to 86 years old. He worked as a truck driver about 28 years, but he never wear sunscreen while driving the truck. The left side of his face was exposed to sunlight for a long time through the left window of the truck. Researchers analyzing the man's case said ultraviolet A radiation penetrated into his skin on the left side of his face deeply and that accelerated skin aging. Second, another study divided 900 people into two groups for four and a half years. One group used sunscreen every day and the other group used sunscreen intermittently. They analyzed skin samples with a microscopic measuring apparatus, and the results revealed that people who used sunscreen intermittently had skin that aged faster than the everyday use group's skin by 24 percent.

These examples make you realize the importance of sunscreen. Whether it is summer or winter, whether you stay indoors or go outdoors, whenever and wherever you do things, you should wear sunscreen. So, what are some standards for choosing sunscreen? First, there are two types of sunscreen, ones that absorb UV rays and ones that reflect UV rays. The former sunscreen blocks UV rays chemically. It protects the skin by changing UV rays to harmless heat energy before they penetrate the skin. Also, this sunscreen feels soft, has no white turbidity and is appropriate for oily skin. But people with sensitive skin might have trouble because of the chemical composition of this sunscreen. The latter sunscreen blocks UV rays physically and protects the skin by forming a UV ray barrier. This sunscreen has a highly secure composition, so people who have sensitive skin can use it safety. But there is the phenomenon of white turbidity and the possibility of skin trouble if you do not carefully clean your skin. Not only the type of sunscreen but also the sun protection factor (SPF) is important. A high SPF is not always good. In everyday life, SPF 30+, PA++ sunscreen provides sufficient protection.

Follow these standards and use a sunscreen suitable for your skin type every day. Remember that you should reapply the sunscreen every two hours. The winter is coming, but don't forget to wear sunscreen. Wear sunscreen steadily 365 days a year if you want to have baby face skin when you get older.
