Are students of Kyonggi University well aware of the functions of the library’s homepage? To answer this question, we took a survey to grasp students’ perceptions of the library’s homepage. When we asked, “Do you know what functions are on the library’s homepage?” 64% said, “Yes” and 35% said, “No.” We discovered that many students were not well aware of the functions of library’s homepage through the survey. Therefore, the Pharos will introduce the various functions to help more student use the library's homepage well.

E-book

There is “Integrated E-book” for Korean E-books. The publishers are Kyobo Bookstore, YES24, Young-poong, and so on. Ten books are available for loan and the loan period is 5 days. One extension is possible and you can return the book automatically. You can reserve 2 books, and the reservation lasts for 3 days. The “Integrated E-book” service is conveniently available on PCs, Smart-phones, and tablets. As for foreign E-books, there are two choices, “EBSCO E-book” and “GVRL (Gale Virtual Reference Library).” “EBSCO E-book” has a number of prominent foreign publishers. The loan period of a university licensed E-book for common use is 3 days, and E-books that the library purchases are available for 7 days. The book will be returned automatically on the due date. E-books that do not provide original texts can be purchased through an E-book application. In addition, “GVRL” has reference E-books from Gale, a publishing company, and provides services such as Korean translation, free assistance, and so on. E-books are available not only on the homepage but also through applications. There is “AE App Library,” a language learning application for Korean E-books. You can borrow up to 3 books, and the loan period is 14 days. Return is automatic.

E-learning

It is possible to take different kinds of e-learning through the library’s homepage. First, there are IT lectures. These lectures that are more practical and more professional, including OA, multimedia, and AutoCAD professional lectures. In addition, there are lectures about computer literacy, word processors, and data processing engineer certification. Second, there are language lectures about subjects such as TOEIC, conversation, and speaking. Moreover, there are second foreign language lectures such as ones related to Japanese and Chinese, as well as special foreign languages to help you learn Vietnamese, German, Italian and Arabic. Third, the civil servant lectures provide lectures for the grades 7 to 9 civil service examinations, the police employment examination, and the teacher employment examination, examinations for which many students are preparing. Furthermore, the homepage also provides lectures on topics such as the test for licensing real estate agents, the social worker test, and employment. Fourth, the National Technical Certification lecture service provides lectures for acquiring certificates for Engineer Information Communication, Engineer Quality Management, and so on. In addition, there is a lecture for preparing for the Korean history test. Fifth, statistics lectures provide information about statistical analysis and how to do practical research including marketing research analysis. Plus, there is a lecture related to survey analyst certification. Finally, the report writing lecture is for students who have difficulty in writing a report. It is composed of a step-by step writing method, an experiment paper writing method, and examples of excellent reports. The following are related matters about lectures and extracurricular programs. Regardless of the lecture type, the method is similar. The method is to take a lecture from “my lecture room” after applying for it. It should be noted that each lecture has a different period of use and some lectures do not offer lecture materials. In addition, library e-learning is one of the extracurricular programs and graduates of the program will be given KGU+ scholarship points. However, the statistics lecture and the report writing lecture are excluded from the lecture subjects for which points are given.

So far, we have looked into various functions of the library’s homepage. Students should make good use of the various services provided by the school so that they can benefit from them.
