There were many convenient facilities at the university before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, due to the prolonged non-face-to-face lectures, many facilities disappeared or stopped operating as the number of students going to and from school decreased significantly. First the cafeteria stopped operating, and then the convenience store in E-square disappeared in succession. It can be said that  facilities aren’t open because there is no demand due to the decrease in the number of students on campus, but this lack of facilities led to other problems.

As face-to-face lectures for the first semester began, more and more students arrived on campus. As a result, the utilization rate of facilities such as cafeterias, cafes, and convenience stores has increased significantly. A total of seven such school facilities were in operation, but there were still many empty spaces, which meant the open facilities were not adequate to accommodate most of the students. The students were directly affected by the lack of facilities. At lunchtime, many people gathered in the cafeteria to have a meal and they had to wait for a long time. For this reason, there were frequent cases of students being late for class or not being able to eat at all. Fortunately, the school has been opening new dining facilities for students during the vacation to make campus life more convenient. The new facilities at the school are a cafeteria and a convenience store. A food court will also be located on the basement floor of the the first welfare center. The food court will sell rice bowls, pork cutlet, and rice noodles. Also, a restaurant selling school foods will be located on the basement floor of E-Square, and an unmanned E-Mart 24 convenience store has already newly opened in the middle of June. In particular, E-Square is close to lecture buildings, so it is expected that students will be able to conveniently use it in between classes. In addition to welfare facilities, road improvement work was carried out from the professor’s building to the back of the library to the place where the Kyonggi Towers are located during the vacation. This improvement will be helpful for students who ride electric scooters or cars.

Due to the new facilities, students will face fewer inconveniences during crowded time periods. Students will no longer be pressed to eat during lunch time, or have to worry about seats not being available. That brings positive effects not only for students but also for the school. The school will be more energized as students attend school with a positive attitude. We can all look forward to a more comfortable school life in the fall semester.
