Let's Get to Know Kyonggi University Cafes!

 Kim Eui-seongNANIHENG"I'm Kim Eui-seong, and I opened the cafe in October 2013 and have been running the cafe for about 10 years. I'm 40 years old, and I'm a graduate of Kyonggi University. The restaurant on the first floor is also my store, so during the exam period, the rooftop room, the cafe on the second floor, and the cafeteria on the first floor were all provided to students in the form of study rooms. There were times when about 120 people filled our cafe during the exam period. I think communicating with Kyonggi University students is my biggest reason for running a cafe. I have also done startups with KGU students who want to start a business. The startup didn't go well, but it remains as a memory that feels like a diary on my desk."



Q. What are the signature drinks of the cafe?

A. Among the drinks, einspa‥nner, milk tea, and fruit drinks are signature items. Unfortunately, fresh fruit is not available due to COVID-19. A lot of students have been looking for tiramisu, but I can't even do this. Although I like roasting coffee, students are looking for sweet dishes, so I have focused on other menu items rather than coffee. The best-selling item is iced tea. Because it is the most convenient drink for students, it tends to disappear in other cafes, but I cannot remove it from my cafe.



Q. Is there anything you would like to say to Kyonggi University students?

A. I think it would be better to experience various things while attending school rather than just focusing on schoolwork, even if it's a drink or a time consuming thing. When you have an attachment to the school, the school's business district will also develop and ensure internal stability. When it comes to learning, I want you to think about enjoying your time and internalizing knowledge rather than just studying for exams. I was satisfied and happy enough when I was at Kyonggi University. I hope you guys feel the same way.

SAINT PAUL DE VENCE CAFE"I majored in photography at the age of 29 and now I'm Yeom Joon- hyuk, the owner of the cafe. Saint Paul de Cafe is located at the back gate of Kyonggi University and is inspired by Saint Paul de Vence, a small French city. I wanted to create an atmosphere where I want to drink coffee with my friends in a quiet mood. Previously, I worked as an employee at a cafe and started my first business in January 2021."


Q. Which part of the cafe interior did you focus on the most?

A. I tried to reproduce the modern and classic features of the interior of a small city called Saint Paul de Vence. The cafe’s signature interior is a reed that you can see outside the window when sitting at a large table. Many people sometimes stare blankly at the reeds. The reason why I chose Saint Paul de Vence among many French cities is that I like Marc Chagall, who lived there before his death. The small poster paintings are also Chagall's paintings.



Q. What's the signature drink of the cafe?

A. There are two signature drinks, and the first is ‘Saint Paul Spanner’. It is an einspa‥nner made of cream using Lotus snacks. The second is ‘Olegras,’ a drink with a small amount of condensed milk. It's a coffee with a subtle sweetness with handmade cream on top.


Q. What do you hope for the most regarding the COVID-19 situation?

A. As a self-employed person, if students are not active, this commercial district will die. I hope COVID-19 will be relieved soon. I hope the university will prepare thoroughly for face-to-face classes. Our cafe always hosts events and a new menu item will be released soon, so please visit us.
