Recently, meteorological problems have occurred frequently in Korea and the weather is changing unpredictably. Due to global warming, the earth’s temperature is gradually rising, and in Korea, bananas, apple mangoes, and dragon fruits, which are grown in the tropics, have recently begun to be cultivated. In addition, the number of marine organisms is rapidly decreasing. Global warming is believed to be the cause of irregular climate change, such as rapid changes in the seasons that shorten spring and autumn and increase the length of the rainy season.

Global warming means that the earth's average surface temperature rises. Humans' reckless development and destruction of nature directly affected the carbon cycle. Of the 8.9 Gt of carbon added to the atmosphere due to human activity, only 4.0 Gt was turned into carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The rest was absorbed, with 2.3 Gt into the ocean and 2.6 Gt into the surface. In other words, through the carbon cycle, the hydrosphere and lithosphere are responsible for absorbing increasing carbon emissions. Although ocean absorption can slow down the pace of global warming, it can adversely affect marine organisms. Sea water becomes acidic and this increases calcium solubility in seawater, making it difficult to form calcium carbonate frames and shells of marine organisms. Also, if the acidification of the oceans continues, the number of marine life, especially starfish, will decrease.

Global warming can be attributed to the increase in carbon dioxide, or to the enhanced greenhouse effect. This is because the patterns and the rate of climate change that have occurred over the past 1,000 years are unusual compared to before. Due to global warming, the frequency of heavy rains in Korea has increased. There is little change in total precipitation, but the frequency of torrential rain has increased by 20 percent. The reason why torrential rain increases is that as the air heats up, the amount of water vapor that is contained increases, which easily develops clouds of heavy rain.

In order to prevent global warming, many countries have formed a consensus and are working hard to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and protect the earth with appropriate goals for each country. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) performs tasks to predict how the Earth's climate has changed from the past and how the potential nature of artificial climate change will work in the future. The Paris Climate Agreement has also prevented the acceleration of global warming since 2015. A comprehensive implementation check is carried out every five years with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, developed countries take priority and developing countries are left to voluntarily participate. Korea is especially active in reducing carbon by realizing the Korean version of the New Deal policy by 2025.

Climate change immediately showed that the progress of global warming is accelerating due to reckless human development and resource use. To prevent global warming, many countries have signed agreements and are making efforts, but the voluntary participation of the people is also very important. Individuals can participate in ways such as using electric vehicles, participating in several carbon-reducing campaigns, reducing heating and cooling, using public transport, and reducing the use of disposable items.
