The government’s plan to build public housing that can accommodate 4,000 households in Gwacheon Government Complex has been canceled due to strong opposition from residents. The government had announced that it would build housing on the unused land in Gwacheon Government Complex, but residents who are dissatisfied are pushing for a public recall vote. The unused land, once crowded with tents of citizens opposing public housing policy, became empty after the housing plan was canceled. But beyond the vacant site, a big tower crane is busily building luxury apartments. I feel dismayed because the piece of empty, unused land is like a signal of exclusion to people who need economic help.
