  • Gwanggyo Mountain Cherry Blossom Road

After the chilly winter, a warm spring came and greeted the students of Kyonggi University. Since last year, lectures have been held non-face-to-face due to COVID-19, and it is difficult to go to school, so many students do not know the attractive points of Kyonggi University. Also, it is regrettable that we couldn't enjoy spring due to the restrictions on outdoor activities, so let's feel spring a little this year. Gwanggyo Reservoir near the main school Suwon Campus has become so popular that it is crowded with people every spring and has already become an attraction in Suwon City, and there are many things to enjoy as well as places to eat nearby. Thus, Pharos would like to introduce several places to enjoy the Gwanggyo Mountain Cherry Blossom Road, a must-see attraction of Kyonggi University in the spring.

Gwanggyo Reservoir

'Gwanggyo Reservoir' is a famous place in Suwon. Many people love the cherry blossoms in spring and fallen leaves in the fall. It is especially close to Kyonggi University, so it is loved as a shelter and walkway for students. The Gwanggyo Reservoir is 3.4 kilometers in circumference and is a large space for residents to exercise. When you start walking from the entrance, you will find trails connected under the cherry blossom trees. As you walk along the trails, you will not only see people taking pictures but also a sign that tells you which angle and direction to take pictures. If you walk about 1.5 kilometers, you will find a shelter at the end of the Gwanggyo Reservoir. The shelter has various rest and cultural facilities, so you can take a break while exercising or often enjoy concerts and performances. Even at night, street lights shine on the cherry blossoms, so it is recommended to visit them when you have leisure time regardless of day or night.

Naniheng

'Naniheng' is a cozy coffee shop located between Gwanggyo Park and the main entrance of Kyonggi University. The name that means ‘I want you to be happy’ is impressive. Their signature item is coldbrew einspanner. Fresh fruit drinks like strawberry latte are popular as well. You can also try various bakery items such as tiramisu, cheesecake, and red bean butter toast. The interior space is roomy enough to be able to provide many seats for the visitors. Free Wi-Fi is available and even a printer is installed, so many Kyonggi University students visit here with a laptop to study. It is a good place to go when you want not only to study but also to hang out with friends since there are diverse types of board games. The owner of the cafe is an alumnus of Kyonggi University and he often serves some on-the-house treats. Gwanggyo Reservoir is seen through the wide window enabling you to admire the scenery in a relaxed manner. If the weather is nice, the terrace on the rooftop is open, so why don't you visit here for delicious desserts after flower viewing?

Yeonmudong Guksujib

Coming down to the south of Gwanggyo Reservoir through Gwanggyo Park, you can find a restaurant called ‘Yeonmudong Guksujib’. This restaurant is so famous that every walker and climber of Gwanggyo Reservoir and Mountain would visit after exercising. It has been televised several times because of its reasonable price and fine taste. Janchi noodles, kalnoodles, and yeolmu noodles are the main dishes. Also, dongchimi noodles and bean noodles are additionally sold as seasonal menu items. These dishes are able to satisfy all people regardless of age or sex. Thus, it is nice that it is possible to visit here casually. In particular, homemade kal noodles are the most popular food since they have a chewy texture. Thick broth made of natural ingredients without a synthetic flavoring matter is a secret key of the popularity as well. It is also fun to spice it up by adding soy sauce and Cheongyang pepper to suit the individual palate. Just be aware that every Sunday is a regular off day. Furthermore, the restaurant closes early when the broth runs out, so visiting early is encouraged.
