We would like to find out about the controversies surrounding the Dream Tower dormitory. The first is a refund default issue that is not resolved. The issue of refunds is still sluggish, although it is ahead of the new semester in 2021. Second, we would like to hear about the problems that have arisen when the dormitory of Kyonggi University was designated as the Gyeonggi-do Life Therapy Center due to the spread of COVID-19.

The refund has not been returned for a year, and the dormitory also gave an unacceptable answer to students’ complaints. Even in the general school, we are looking into various aspects, but we have not solved the doubts of our classmates. Pharos wants to meet with a student who lives in a dormitory and interview him about what he thinks about it.

Interview

Q1. Please introduce yourself.

Hello. I’m Lee Bomi, majoring in Economics.

Q2. What do you think about the dormitory refund not being processed smoothly?

First of all, I’m so frustrated. It has already been a year, and I was angry at Seo Hee company which ignored all of the students’ complaints.

Q3. What was your suggestion at that time?

The students were hoping to get a refund within the promised time. However it kept getting pushed back. I want to know the details behind the delay and also find out when the exact date for the refund will be.

Q4. Please speak on behalf of the students who have not received a refund.

It may be the money your parents gave you, the money you earned from your own hard work, or the money you borrowed from your living expenses loans. That money can mean more than anyone imagined. Now, we ask for a refund on the date we were promised and a polite apology to Kyonggi University students.

In December last year, Gyeonggi-do announced that it would use the dormitory of Kyonggi University as a life healing center through an emergency mobilization order in order to secure additional beds due to the spread of COVID-19 in the Seoul metropolitan area. However, sudden action caused students who lived in the dormitory to be expelled. The process without prior consultation has frozen students’ minds. Although it was an urgent situation, the public opinion of the students is cold in the process of not being thoughtful. Accordingly, a survey was conducted to investigate the students’ opinion.

According to the survey, many answers were given to the reasons why Kyonggi University students re-entered the dormitory. Among them, the largest percentage of the respondents said the reasons were to live apart from their family, opposition from their parents, and relatively short contract periods for their homes compared to dormitories. The biggest reason for not re-entering is refund problems, which accounted for more than 90% of the respondents, and communication with students is the basis for them. Finally, there are many reasons why students do not choose Kyonggi University dormitory, but the highest rate was due to the decrease in reliability of the dormitory due to the refund problem. In addition, there were various opinions such as high dormitory fees, meals, and soundproofing issues.

Students were surveyed and interviewed regarding the current issues surrounding the dormitory. As a result, complaints and distrust were accumulated due to the failure to refund dormitory fees a year ago. Pharos expects the Kyonggi Dream Tower to be a warm home for students in the new semester of 2021.
