When you think of a fun place to spend time around the school, you can easily imagine only the entertainment options in Suwon, such as the ones near the main gate and the back gate. However, sometimes you may want to get out away from the school and go to a new place. For such students, the Pharos would like to introduce Songdo where they can easily go from hanging out around the school to having a day off in a new place. Songdo is a new town located in Incheon that has grown rapidly in recent years and is considered as a good place to visit according to various media outlets. Let’s find out about Songdo, a place that combines splendid building forests and quiet parks!

Sorae Ecological Wetland Park

“Sorae Ecological Wetland Park” was built by remodeling the Sorae Salt Farm, which used to be called the nation’s largest salt farm. As such, salt storage facilities are scattered around the center of a salt purification machine. In addition, the park is divided largely based on the central observatory building with a tidal flat on the right, and a huge stretch of land and salt farms on the left. In detail, it consists of the Ecological Exhibition Hall, a natural learning field, a salt field, a mud flat experience area, a freshwater pond and a tidal current observation center. Especially interesting, the frozen ground and water melt in the spring, allowing migratory birds to be observed near the rice fields. Also, useful information such as the definition of mud flats, generation causes, wetland’s function and value can be obtained from the Ecological Exhibition Hall on the first floor of the observatory. Also,

you can observe vividly the process of producing the salt yourself at the Salt Center.

Central Park

“Central Park” is a large green park, twice the size of Yeouido Park, and is also called “Songdo Central Park.” Its overall mood is exotic rather than traditional. Now, we will introduce to you three of the most unusual facilities and locations in Central Park.

First, there is the Tribowl. The Tribowl is a uniquely shaped structure consisting of three bowls. It is operated as a multi-cultural performing arts center. We can see the shine of various lights.

Second, there is the West Boat House. We can take various boats like

cruise ships and kayaks there. The fee is 4,000 won per person, 2,000

won per child, and 3,000 won per person over the age of 65, and for men of national merit and the disabled. The boat route is in order from the West Boat House to G-Tower to the West Boat House following the long waterway in Central Park. It takes twenty minutes and the schedule on weekdays and weekends is different.

Last, there is Deer Farm. We can see deer in Central Park. In reality, if you go to Deer Farm, you can see closer than in a zoo. If you say hello to a deer, you can hear their crying. In addition, Central Park is divided into various categories, including a sculpture park, a terrace garden, and Songdo Hanok Village, and there are various attractions to see. There is a bike lane, so many people ride a bike there.

G Tower Observatory

The “G-Tower,” well known for its observatory which provides a wonderful view of Songdo, is located right next to Central Park. The most attractive thing about the G-Tower is the free admittance. The observatory is located on the 33rd floor of the G-Tower. As the observatory is considered a popular attraction internationally, many foreigners visit the G-Tower Observatory. When we look at Songdo from the observatory, we can see the Incheon Bridge. If you look at the Incheon Bridge, you can feel free and open. Furthermore, we can see many unique structures that have been built in Songdo. Most of all, if you see the night view, it may feel like seeing stars in space. In addition, there is also a space to experience VR and make various souvenirs related to Incheon.

You can feel a stark urban atmosphere in Songdo, but you can also relax to your heart’s content. Though it is stuffy among the many tall buildings, you feel like you have found an oasis in the desert when you see the various natural environments and parks. Why don't you travel to the quiet city of Songdo when you are feeling tense and confused? If you want a new experience while at university, let's go to Songdo.
