The RE:BORN student council, the new student council that will lead students in 2018, has been elected. Kyonggi University had some problems during elections in the past, so there was period when we operated with only an emergency committee. We would like to introduce you to the newly born student council after having overcome the pain of the past. Some students may also be wondering whether the RE:BORN student council's pledges will really work. Let's find out about the RE:BORN student council's plan.

Q. Please introduce the RE:BORN council.

Our council was named “RE:BORN” to emphasize the concept of binding together in Korean and “Born Again” from last year. We changed from having a director and coordinator to having directors, managers and coordinators in each department. The welfare part has been assigned five more people than the others to manage shuttle buses, dormitories, and the library. In addition, we will establish an “External Cooperation Section” to promote the benefits of affiliates, hidden scholarships, and IPP business.

Q. How do you feel about being elected?

We’ve been busy since being elected. In December, we arranged the year with a pledge, directions to move forward, and things to do. Starting with the reform of

Facebook's page on January 1, we felt, actually, that we won the election by doing practical work such as the movement of the student council offices, meeting with

the president of the university, and an intramural OT bid presentation.

Q. 2017 was run by the emergency committee, so tell me what you think they did well and didn’t do well.

First of all, I think the part that they did well was the operation of various cultural events such as the “Daedongje” and other things. What I think they did poorly was that they didn’t communicate smoothly with students despite the efforts of the emergency committee. Even though students were completely opposed to the restructuring of majors, the school went ahead with its plan. Also, I think they should have disclosed the budget more clearly to students.

Q. There were some pledges that were judged harshly by students in the question and answer part of the public hearing. Please explain in detail your efforts to implement these pledges.

The first thing is “the percentage of grades” pledge. The pledge is to change from the current structure in which “As equal 25%, Bs equal 35%, and Cs equal 40%” to the structure in which an “As equal 30%, Bs equal 40%, and Cs equal 30%.” We have had sufficient communication with the association of professors and the president of the association to be hopeful about a positive response. We will continue to make efforts to reform the structure of the school system because the school recognizes the lack of competitiveness due to the percentages of the grades.

In addition, about the eighth pledge, “microwave installation,” we have talked with the dormitories and Seo-hee Construction. When the dialogue with the newly elected dorm selection committee is concluded in 2018, we will officially send a public notice to the student support agency and Seo-hee Construction.

Last, the fourth pledge is related to opening the area around the student union facilities. We think that pledge’s importance concerns safety. Currently, the student union area is equipped with heat detectors to prevent fires and CCTV is installed on each floor to take video 24 hours a day. We will equip the space with more heat detectors and CCTV cameras to fulfill this pledge. Preferentially, we’ll open the area around the student union facilities in examination periods and the festival period. Through trial and error, we will try to solve problems and secure safety.

Q. How will you communicate with the university as a student council?

First, our RE:BORN student council will deliver students’ opinions through periodic talks with the Student Support Team. Then we'll examine the university’s development direction intentions and plan for a meeting with the president of university. Therefore, we will be a student council that tries to make a university for students.

Q. How will you communicate with students?

First, we will gather a diversity of opinions by conducting surveys periodically. In addition, we will maintain communication through Facebook, notice boards, and an

Extended Operations Committee.

Q. What are RE:BORN’s future resolutions and the last thing you want to say to Kyonggi University’s students?

We are the 31st student council of Kyonggi University. Last year, many students had a lot of problems because the student council was absent. Therefore, we made

pledges that centered on communication and realistic problems. All the pledges are necessary for students, so we will try to fulfill the pledges. One vote per person has made a pretty red ribbon. Thank you for your vote. Now, we’ll make a strong effort to tie Kyonggi University and our students together with the red ribbon. We will be good!

The new student council was elected after a time of many troubles. Some of you may have high expectations and others may have doubts about our student council. Now that it is their first time, let’s hope for a better university and support the new student council. We hope RE:BORN will make a better university for all students.
